HPU offers competitive academic and activity-based scholarship awards to deserving students. These scholarships are awarded largely to incoming freshmen who are graduates of high schools in Hawai'i. A number of academic-based scholarships are also awarded to incoming freshmen from outside of the state. Students who have completed two semesters at the University and who are academically qualified may also apply for the merit-based Hawai'i Pacific University Scholarship.

Music Department Scholarships are available for full-time music majors and non-majors who have shown strong commitment to the field. Incoming freshmen may also apply, and are considered music majors if they register for applied music (private lessons) and appropriate theory courses, and submit a completed declaration form. Awards are generally based on academic achievement, musical accomplishment, and service to the department. To apply, an applicant must comply with the following. * Submit a completed ORIGINAL PLUS THREE copies of the application form (one for High School Seniors who intend to be UHM music majors and another for continuing UHM students) to the Scholarship Committee, Music Department. The deadline for completed applications is March 15. * For incoming students, be prepared to perform, at a later date, at least two pieces of the applicant's choice, and to provide an accompanist (if necessary). Neighbor island and mainland students may send a tape in lieu of a private audition. All applications are reviewed by the Music Department Scholarship Committee.
